Faster electric vehicle chargers on Oahu

Faster electric vehicle chargers on Oahu

Fast chargers for electric vehicles have arrived on Oahu.

While most public charging stations take four to six hours to reach a full charge, these can do it in under 30 minutes.

The Aloha Island Mart in Kahala unveiled one of three fast charging stations on the island.

The other fast chargers are at the Aloha Island Mart in Waipio and the Shell Station in Kailua.

"The beauty of it is we have them now strategically located around the island so that people should never be too far away from the fast charging station,” said Richard Parry, Aloha Petroleum president.

The fast charging stations are free, at least for the next six months.
They provide 480 volts of electricity and are able to charge vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf, the Chevy Volt, and the Mitsubishi-I.

Commentary: Leave to Hawaii to obtain the fast charging stations for the electric cars. Although the electric cars are gaining in popularity, I'm still not really sold on them completely. Hawaii would actually be a great place for some of the vehicles used in Europe that get high fuel mileage there.
